We are appalled that San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President and CEO Ramon Ang kept his mouth shut for a whole month before finally admitting that SMC was one of the companies that supplied the 900,000 liters of industrial oil carried by the ill-fated tanker now poisoning the Verde Island Passage (VIP).
Two million people depend on VIP for their food and livelihood. The biodiversity of the VIP can feed more generations if only we would take care of it, but we now stand to lose so much because of this spill. We deserve a complete and honest accounting on this matter, but so far, we have only encountered silence and evasive answers the companies involved and even government agencies.
Those responsible for this disaster owe a debt to all victims and future generations, a debt which can only be paid with transparency and accountability,” said Gariguez.
Nice work
